We find many applicants do not fully understand what Grocery workers do because the many duties performed are not always visible to customers. This job is not for everyone.
Please read this carefully. Your interviewer will answer any questions you may have. Then you will be asked to confirm you are interest in pursuing employment with us.
We expect all customers to be treated with dignity, respect and an exceptionally friendly attitude, at all times, and under all circumstances. We also expect all staff to be alert and interested in helping customers, providing information about merchandise, clarifying what’s on sale, and helping with selections. A friendly attitude and expert customer service are NOT options, ever.
Bagging is more than stuffing groceries into sacks. It involves knowing where merchandise is and taking customers to it. It involves sweeping, mopping, cleaning, facing, straightening and moving shelf stock and other hard work. Cashiering is more than ringing a sale. It involves making sure that our customer has a pleasant shopping experience. Accuracy and correct pricing are absolute. You will also be dusting, cleaning, facing and straightening, restocking, price marking merchandise and other hard work. Service counter staff and department personnel are required to be cross-trained so that they can be utilized where and when needed to best facilitate customer needs. This may also include cashiering. All employees are required to learn and know what merchandise we carry, where it is in the store and be able to take customers to it. Often, you will work alone in an area without immediate supervision. And of course, these jobs require that you be on your feet all of the time.
Our store is open seven days a week. Customers do a lot of their shopping during evenings and on weekends. So work schedules involve nights, Saturdays, and Sundays. Holidays and major sales may involve extra weekend time. At busy times we open early and close late. We expect all staff to be at work when scheduled, on time, dressed for and ready to work.
